A Pool of Tom Waits-ie Goodness

Spent the majority of the day researching the south, Texas largely, looking into education rates and poverty; joyous as you can imagine. From that I decided to look further into the aforementioned Chess music scene in the early 20th century; Howlin’ Wolf ect. Oddly, upon listening from a critical point of view, even the more down beats songs are too fast paced or in a major key; not screaming trampled underfoot, homeless mother…

Then. Like a big quiffed, scratchy voiced punch in the lady junk I gots an idea. TOM WAITS. The tone of his voice, lyrics and general instrumentation of his songs scream everything I want to convey in the piece.

Currently putting together a playlist for the production meeting tomorrow. Starting with Howlin’ Wolf (arguably one of Waits influences), T Bone Walker, Mr Waits himself & some Gnarls Barkley to show the progression of the blues genre and my direction with the Tom Waits idea.

The man is the image of anti-culture; even if it doesn’t work out he is my new inspiration for the design. Cheers dad

Fingers crossed they go for it/ it works…
